Labor Day Weekend is the perfect reminder of just how special life in the South Bay really is.
🌲 One minute, you're barefoot on the sand with your toes in the Pacific. A few hours later, you're surrounded by pine trees, alpine lakes and the dramatic peaks of the Eastern Sierra. That’s the magic of living in the South Bay. From the Beach 🌊 to the Mountains 🏔
One of the things we love most about Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach and the greater South Bay is that you don't have to choose between a laid-back coastal lifestyle and an outdoor mountain escape, you can have both. ☕️ Wake up, grab a coffee, walk to the beach, take a morning swim — and when you're ready for a change of scenery, point the car north. 🛶 Mammoth Lakes is approximately five hours from Los Angeles, making it remarkably accessible for a long weekend getaway. The drive follows the scenic Highway 395 corridor through the Mojave Desert and Owens Valley, with the Sierra Nevada growing more dramatic as you get closer to Mammoth. The proximity to clean air and open spaces makes a South Bay lifestyle so unique, as you can wake up and go take a swim at the beach in the morning, and be in the mountains for dinner.
As such, the Bhaus Eight team headed to Mammoth Lakes for Labor Day weekend, along with friends. It was a sweet “official” farewell to Summer 2026 (we also got to enjoy Rock N Rye Mammoth at the Village ( https://www.mammothrocknrye.com/)
So back to Mammoth Lakes…It’s close enough for a long weekend, but far enough away to feel like you've truly escaped. There is so much to do, including mountain biking (a glorious ride from town up to Horseshoe Lake, take the trail around Horseshoe Lake, and come back down enjoying the vast Sierra Nevada views), hiking the town loop, visiting the Mammoth Village and the eateries and breweries in town, renting a pontoon boat (although this past weekend was a bit too windy for boating), or just simply grab a book and relax in your mountain retreat, prepare dinner with friends, and enjoy the sunset and Aspen trees as they sway to the compass of the wind.
🏨 Development has been busy in Mammoth Lakes as well, some locals would prefer it were not the case, however, here we are. And now, there’s another reason to put Mammoth on the weekend getaway list of chic places to visit: Limelight Mammoth.
